On July 5^th, the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the Russian Federation Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Thani. The parties discussed broader cooperation between MGIMO University and the universities of Qatar.

On April 20th, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Russian Federation Abdulrahman Bin Suleiman Al Ahmed visited the University within the framework of the special course of lectures entitled “The Ambassadorial Dialogues”. The distinguished guest was received by the Rector Anatoly Torkunov and the Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov. The parties discussed cooperation between MGIMO and Saudi universities as well as prospects for more intense joint academic and research activities.

On March 14^th, the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov welcomed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Argentine Republic to Russia Eduardo Antonio Zuain, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to Russia Maria Luisa Ramos Urzagaste and the Head of the Cultural and Consular Section of the Argentinian Embassy to Russia Nicolas Antonio David Juncal. 

On February 17^th, MGIMO University hosted the meeting between the Rector Anatoly Torkunov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Russia Alemayehu Tegenu Aargau.

On February 10^th, the MGIMO Rector and сo-Chair of the Trianon Dialogue Anatoly Torkunov met with the Head of the Russian-French Musical Meetings in Toulouse and Director of the Toulouse Capitol National Orchestra Thierry D’Argoubet. The parties discussed one of the key cultural projects of the Trianon Dialogue called the Russian-French Musical Meetings in Toulouse. Launched in 2019 with the support of the Trianon Dialogue and Emmanuel Macron, the festival has proved to be a unique example of cultural interaction between the two countries.

On December 21^st, MGIMO University hosted a certificate awarding ceremony for the winners of the new KEB HNB RUS Bank scholarship program. The event was attended by the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, the Chairman of the Board (KEB HNB RUS Bank) Kim Inbae and the Deputy Head of the Economic Department (the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation) Lee Jinmin.

On 9 December, the MGIMO Institute for International Studies (IMI MGIMO) and the MGIMO consulting agency “Eurasian Strategies” held the VI Moscow Conference on Political Risks and Forecasting "International Uncertainty 2022". In his opening remarks, Anatoly Torkunov, Rector of the MGIMO University, noted the importance of international discussions in this format.

On December 8^th, the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain Marcos Gómez Martínez. His Excellency visited MGIMO University for the first time. The parties discussed academic mobility cooperation, exchange programs with MGIMO partner universities, research activities, as well as cultural, creative and international aspects of interaction between the two countries.

On November 15^th, the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Russian Federation Abdulrahman Bin Suleiman Al Ahmed. It is the first visit by His Excellency to MGIMO University.

On November 15^th, the Embassy of Mongolia hosted the state awards ceremony. The MGIMO Rector and Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly Torkunov received the Order of the Polar Star, the highest state award in Mongolia, for the valuable contribution to the development of bilateral relations between Mongolia and the Russian Federation.

In accordance with the decree of the Japanese government, the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun (3d class) for his contribution to the development of scientific exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and Russia. The Orders on behalf of the Japanese Emperor are presented to foreign citizens, honoring their outstanding contribution to strengthening friendship with Japan and to other areas.

October 7^th, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Russia Rodrigo Baena Soares visited MGIMO for the first time. The Ambassador and diplomats from the Brazilian Embassy were welcomed by the Rector of MGIMO Anatoly Torkunov, the Vice-Rector for Students’ Development and International Affairs Stanislav Surovtsev and the Head of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Russia Boris Martynov. The parties discussed various areas of cooperation related to academic mobility, exchange programmes with MGIMO partner universities, research, cultural, creative and international aspects of interaction between the two countries.

September 28^th, Ambassador of Finland to Russia Antti Helantera visited MGIMO, marking the launch of the “Ambassadorial Dialogues” course in the new 2021/22 academic year. The distinguished guest was greeted by the MGIMO Rector and the member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly Torkunov and the Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov. The parties discussed the cooperation between MGIMO and Finnish universities as well as possible prospects for joint academic and research activities.

September 22d, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Russia Dang Minh Khoi visited the University, meeting with the Rector of MGIMO Anatoly Torkunov. His Excellency graduated from MGIMO in 1989, keeping warm memories of his student years spent in Moscow. He also praised the quality of training at the University, noting that many MGIMO graduates from Vietnam have excelled in their career, holding high offices in the Vietnamese ministries and agencies and successfully working in private companies.

September 6th, the first French-Russian Forum on Sustainable Development was held at the initiative of the Russian Trade Representation in France. The event was organized with the support of MGIMO University and the Trianon Dialogue together with the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, MEDEF International, the French group CIFAL, and the Climate Partnership of Russia. Rector of MGIMO and co-Chair of the Trianon Dialogue Anatoly Torkunov emphasized that climate has become an integral part of the discussions between professional communities in Russia and France.

As is tradition, September 1st Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov opened the new academic year at MGIMO. Mr Lavrov congratulated the MGIMO freshmen, gave his comment on relevant issues of the international agenda and answered the questions of future experts in international relations. Before the statement of the Foreign Minister, the freshmen were addressed by Rector of MGIMO and member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly Torkunov.

August 5th, MGIMO’s Rector Anatoly Torkunov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Russian Federation Ahmed Al Saati. Ambassador Ahmed Al Saati arrived to personally hand a thank-you letter from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain over to Anatoly Torkunov concerning the decision of the MGIMO Academic Council to award him an Honorary Doctor degree, as well as a memorable trophy from the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence.

July 2^nd, MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani. During a meeting attended by high representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain, MGIMO Rector A. Torkunov announced the decision of the Academic Council of the University to award the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain His Majesty Hamad Ibn Isa Al Khalifa the degree of Honorary Doctor of MGIMO.

July 1^st, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov received at the University the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Russia, a graduate of MGIMO (‘97) Lubomir Rehak. During their conversation, the sides covered a broad range of issues related to expanding cooperation in the educational, scientific and cultural spheres. They also discussed the activities of the Slovak community at the University.

June 16^th, the Ambassador of of Poland to Russia, K.Krajewski was received at MGIMO by the Rector of the University A.Torkunov. The Rector related to the guest the history of the University and presented MGIMO’s current programs and its development prospects. He also spoke about the students from Poland who study at all levels and in different areas of training as well as about the activities of the MGIMO Polish Club.

June 16^th, MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov met with the Head of the Center for Science Diplomacy, Professor P.Berkman, a well-known researcher, who is also the Head of the Science Diplomacy program at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and a visiting professor at Harvard University (USA). The parties discussed the activities of MGIMO’s Center for Science Diplomacy and the most relevant areas of research, including the theoretical foundations of science diplomacy and corporate issues.
