June 8th, on the International Day of the Russian Language, an online marathon was held. This date has been celebrated annually around the world since 2010. This year celebrations were held under the banner: "Eugene Onegin: watching, talking, reading." Famous extracts were recited in the six official languages of the United Nations: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov greeted the participants of the marathon.

May 25th, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation Y.Kosherbaev came to MGIMO. The Ambassador and representatives of the Embassy of Kazakhstan were received by MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov and the Vice-Rector for Social Work and International Relations S.Surovtsev. The sides spoke about how to develop bilateral cooperation related to academic mobility, joint research and cultural exchanges, as well as the issue of student vaccinations. The Ambassador also met with MGIMO students from the Republic of Kazakhstan.

May 24th, the Rector of the University A.Torkunov met with the Ambassador of Great Britain to Russia Deborah Bronnert. During their interview, the parties spoke about Russian-British academic exchanges, MGIMO's cooperation with British universities and the joint bachelor's, master's and postgraduate programs currently being implemented. Further attention was given to scientific collaboration with British think tanks.
May 24th, the Ambassador of Thailand to Russia Sasiwat Wongsinsawat came to MGIMO and met with the University’s Rector A.Torkunov. During what was the Ambassador’s first visit to MGIMO, the Rector related to the guest the history of the University, described the educational programs being implemented and the work of the ASEAN Center.

May 21st, in the framework of the "Ambassadorial Dialogue" course of lectures, Canadian Ambassador Alison LeClaire paid a visit to MGIMO. The diplomat met with MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov and the Vice-Rector for Research, Dean of the School of International Relations A.Baykov. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the leadership of the University for the invitation and expressed hope for further cooperation with the University.
May 21st, the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Malta, Evarist Bartolo, visited MGIMO. The guest of honor was greeted by MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov, the Vice-Rector for Development A.Malgin and the Vice-Rector for Social Work and International Relations S.Surovtsev. During their exchange, the sides discussed how to intensify bilateral relations in the field of youth and student contacts and to deepen their cultural, historical, spiritual and humanitarian interactions.

May 20th, as part of the "Ambassadorial Dialogue" cycle of lectures, the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation Krystyna Marty Lang spoke at the University. The diplomat had a meeting with MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov and the Vice-Rector for Research, Dean of the School of International Relations A.Baykov. After the sides exchanged thoughts on current events, the Ambassador delivered a lecture to MGIMO students about Switzerland's foreign policy and the country's activities within the framework of the UN.

May 19th, the Ambassador of Montenegro to the Russian Federation Milorad Scepanovic was received at MGIMO by the Rector of the University A.Torkunov. This was the Ambassador’s first visit to MGIMO. During the meeting, A.Torkunov related to the guest the history of the University, described the educational programs it offers and spoke of the students from Montenegro studying at MGIMO. The sides agreed to organize a joint scientific student conference in autumn with the participation of M.Scepanovic and the Balkan Club.

On May 13th during a solemn ceremony at the University the UN Secretary-General António Guterres was conferred an Honorary Doctor degree. The high-ranking guest was received by the Rector and Chairman of the United Nations Association of Russia Anatoly Torkunov. Following the ceremony, as is tradition, the Secretary-General delivered a doctoral lecture to students and faculty.

May 12th, the Special Adviser and Assistant Secretary-General for Climate Action Selwin Hart came to MGIMO where he was received by the Rector of the University A.Torkunov and gave a talk to students. The topic of S.Hart's speech is one of the key topics being researched at MGIMO. The University actively promotes the environmental agenda and sustainable development issues. This year, the University opened a Center for Sustainable Development, and is enrolling students for the new master's programs "Environmental Management in the Corporate Sector" and "Sustainable Development Management".

April 21st, a screening of a documentary film about the first president of independent Greece, a brilliant diplomat and chairman of the Collegium of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire during the reign of Alexander I, Count I.Kapodistrias (1776-1831) "The Chief Greek of the Russian Empire", filmed by ‘Good Production’ in 2018, was shown at MGIMO. On this occasion, the Ambassador of Greece Ekaterini Nassika and the Ambassador of Cyprus Andreas Zenonos came to the University. The diplomats were received by MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov.

April 20th, the Ambassador of Israel to Russia Alexander Ben Zvi came to MGIMO to talk to students in the framework of a new course of lectures, the "Ambassadorial Dialogue", organized by the School of International Relations. MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov greeted the guest of the University. After having a conversation with the Rector, the Ambassador delivered a lecture to the students on practical diplomacy in contemporary international relations.

April 19th, MGIMO hosted the opening ceremony of the XXII Vitaly Churkin Moscow International Model UN (C-MIMUN 2021). The ceremony began with a welcome speech by the Rector of MGIMO, Chairman of the Russian Association for the promotion of the United Nations A.Torkunov. He noted that this year's agenda covers a very wide range of topics, closely linked with the current situation in the world. The Rector highlighted the main topics to be discussed including the problem of migration, space exploration, and education of various groups of the population in the field of agriculture. The speaker remarked that delegates from 31 countries are taking part in C-MIMUN this year. A.Torkunov also related to the audience the history of the Moscow V.Churkin International Model UN and emphasized its international reputation. Vitaly Ivanovich Churkin was himself a highly respected figure in the international community.

April 7th, MGIMO hosted a ceremony during which the Head of the department of the French language M.Ogorodov and Associate Professor of the department L.Chitakhova were decorated with the Order of the Academic Palms of France. Bestowed on behalf of the Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports of France, the awards were presented in a solemn atmosphere by the Ambassador of France to Russia Pierre Levy. The Ambassador was introduced to the audience by the Rector A.Torkunov, who spoke about the long-running history of Russian-French cooperation and the opening in 1993 of the first Russian master's dual degree program between MGIMO and Sciences Po.
April 7th, the final stage of the third Vasily Trediakovsky Oratory Competition in French took place. The first prize was awarded to Daria Nazarova, a 4th year student of the School of International Journalism. MGIMO Rector, Co-chairman of the Russian-French Trianon Dialogue A.Torkunov and the Ambassador of France to Russia P.Levy gave welcome speeches to the contestants, the members of the jury and guests of the event.

April 1st, the Ambassador of Sweden to Russia Malena Mard came to MGIMO University. The guest was received by the Rector of the University A.Torkunov. The sides spoke about the main areas of academic cooperation between MGIMO and Swedish universities and agreed on the importance of deepening student contacts.

March 31st, in the framework of the Trianon Dialogue, the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI) opened a series of online seminars on climate change in Russia and France. The co-chairs of the Trianon Dialogue A.Torkunov and P.Morel launched the event with opening speeches. Anatoly Torkunov remarked that by selecting the topic of ecology, the Trianon Dialogue has given a powerful impetus to the development of Russian-French projects in the field of environmental education, nature management and the protection of biodiversity.
