First Russian-British PhD Viva

January 18th, the dissertation councils of MGIMO and the University of Reading held a joint session during which, for the first time in our country, a thesis in English prepared as part of a double postgraduate study program between Russian and British universities was defended. As a result of the Viva, the applicant was awarded two academic degrees: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management from Henley Business School and Candidate of Political Science (MGIMO). The meeting of the council was opened by MGIMO Rector, Chairman of the International Expert Council for the awarding of academic degrees, Academician A.Torkunov. After greeting the meeting participants, the Rector emphasized the importance of the first joint Viva held in the framework the program of scientific cooperation between MGIMO and Henley Business School (University of Reading).

MGIMO Co-founder of World-Class Research Center

January 14th and 15th, the Gaidar Forum 2021 unfolded in Moscow. On the first day of the forum, a session dedicated to the presentation of a world-class Research Center based on a consortium of four leading Russian scientific and educational organizations, including MGIMO, took place. The University’s Rector A.Torkunov and the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Research A.Baykov attended the event. One of the highlights of the forum was the signing of a memorandum on the establishment of a Research Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Human Potential. The ceremony was attended by the Rector of the HSE Y.Kuzminov, the Rector of RANEPA V.Mau, MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov and the Director of the Miklukho-Maclay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences D.Funk.

Opening of XXI Churkin Moscow International Model UN

On October 19th, the official opening of the XXI Moscow International Model of the UN named after V.I.Churkin (С-MIMUN) took place, as well as a meeting of members of the Russian Public Committee to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UN. The gathering was attended by members of the Russian Public Committee for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the UN, representative offices of UN organizations, diplomats, businesspeople, newsmen, government officials, and faculty members of a number of universities. This year's Model guests of honor were Anatoly Torkunov, Chairman of the Russian Association for the promotion of the United Nations, Rector of MGIMO, Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Kuznetsov, Director of the UN Information Agency in Moscow, Pyotr Ilyichev, Director of the Department of International organizations of the Russian foreign Ministry, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on international Affairs.
